Each time your thermostat "calls" for heat the Coleman® integrated control calculates and stores information. This allows the control to provide the optimum furnace firing rate, on each call for heat, based on information from your home thermostat and past heating cycles.
Unlike conventional systems, your thermostat does not simply turn the furnace "on" and "off". The furnace control calculates the demand and
modulates the gas valve in precise 1 % increments to ensure maximum comfort and maintain air temperature within one-half degree of the desired setting.
The exhaust and indoor circulating blower motors also modulate. This ensures that the new Coleman® provides the combustion air required to satisfy the demand and adjust for supply or exhaust combustion air variations. It also ensures that the indoor blower speed is controlled in response to the heat provided by the modulating gas valve. This "modulation" makes the Coleman' one of the most efficient and quietest furnaces available.
Constant temperature means more comfort
Air stratification exists in your home when warm air rises and becomes trapped in a room's ceiling. This can happen when a furnace is equipped with a standard blower motor. In this case, motors only ramp up when heat is called for. Consequently, temperature fluctuation pockets develop between the ceiling and the floor. With the Coleman® Modulating Furnace, air is circulated for longer periods of time, which reduces air stratification and makes a home more comfortable.

The Coleman* Modulating "FC9C" series furnace is equipped with an electronically commutated motor (ECM). ECM motors use less than 20% of the electricity required by standard motors. Unlike standard blower motors, the ECM offers economical fan speed changes. The result is incredible humidity control, dramatically reduced sound levels, and one of the best energy efficient furnaces you can buy. And of course supreme comfort.

Because conventional Two-Stage furnace technology means that the furnace operates at either 60% or 100% of it's rated full capacity. Over a heating season the Coleman® Modulating furnace will run 75 to 85% of the time between 35 and 55% of it's rated full capacity.
